NOSARA. |. JANUARY + FEBRUARY 2027
THE OCEAN RESIDENCY
An immersive worldschool experience for a small cohort of families ready to reimagine education, wellness and living.
For two extraordinary months in Nosara, Costa Rica, the ocean, jungle and surrounding community become the classroom.
LUCEN Nosara invites children to learn through movement, adventure, curiosity, creativity and real-world experience—connecting what they discover about the natural world with what they begin to understand about themselves.
ONE EXTRAORDINARY LIVING CLASSROOM
LEARNING THROUGH THE WORLD.
DISCOVERING THE WORLD WITHIN.
The Practice of Paying Attention
At the heart of LUCEN is a simple but increasingly rare practice: paying attention.
Children are invited to notice the movement of the ocean, the life of the jungle, the needs of the people around them—and what is happening inside their own bodies and hearts.
Through breath, movement, nature, challenge, rest and meaningful connection, they begin to understand their nervous systems and practice returning to steadiness. They learn when to pause, when to listen, when to ask for support and when they are ready to move beyond what feels familiar.
Because meaningful learning does not come from curriculum alone. It grows from the conditions surrounding a child:
time, trust, safety, presence, belonging and the freedom to remain with an experience long enough for it to matter.
A CURATED LIVING CURRICULUM
OUR CURRICULUM BEGINS WITH THE WORLD THAT SURROUNDS US.
LUCEN is both a carefully designed experience and a living inquiry. We pay close attention to each child, each group and the place itself—allowing the curriculum to remain responsive to what is emerging.
WAVES

LIFE BELOW THE SURFACE
Marine Life • Reefs • Turtles

And woven through everything: the practice of paying attention, nervous-system regulation, movement, emotional intelligence, creativity, connection and stewardship.
Our attention stays on the conditions underneath the activities
Children learn not only from what we teach, but from how the adults around them listen, respond and meet the unexpected. Our guides and mentors cultivate a relational environment in which children feel safe, seen and supported—because connection and regulation shape everything that follows.
- Trust
- Safety and belonging
- Time and spaciousness
- Attentive adults
- Responsibility held within support
- Challenge without unnecessary pressure
- Play and joy
- Connection to place and community
Before children can deeply learn, they must learn how to pay attention—to their bodies, one another, the natural world, and what is happening WITHIN.
WHEN KNOWLEDGE BECOMES EXPERIENCE
LUCEN Worldschool is designed around a simple idea: children learn deeply when knowledge becomes experience.
Surfing becomes an exploration of physics, weather, resilience and the body.
The reef becomes a study of ecology, interconnection and stewardship.
Through breath, movement, time in nature, challenge, rest and connection, children begin developing the tools to recognize and regulate their nervous systems. They learn when they need to soften, when they are ready to stretch, and how to return to themselves.
Music becomes an exploration of frequency, listening and expression.
And the natural world becomes a mirror—inviting children not only to understand what surrounds them, but to notice what is happening within.
MORE THAN A SCHOOL DAY.
THE DAILY RHYTHM
Our days intentionally move like a wave—an inhale and an exhale.
There are moments of structure and exploration, and moments of creativity and integration. Knowledge is paired with intuition. Challenge with softness. Action with reflection.
Children are invited to understand the world around them while simultaneously learning to understand themselves within it.
Children and parents are invited to begin the day together in the ocean, with the option to stay afterward for breakfast on the beach.

We begin with circle, journaling, breath, connection and movement—giving children time to tune inward, notice how they feel and connect with what they need and what sparks their curiosity.

The ocean, jungle and community become our living classroom through surfing, snorkeling, biking, movement, exploration and local adventures.
Children learn through their bodies, senses and direct experience—not simply by hearing about the world, but by living what they learn.

Each week explores a larger theme through science, academics, emotional intelligence, philosophy and inquiry—connecting discoveries about the natural world with discoveries within themselves.

Lunch is intentionally spacious: time to eat together, rest, play, connect and simply be.

Afternoons are for expression and integration through art, music, storytelling, movement, journaling, mindfulness, service and hands-on projects.
This is where knowledge becomes expression—and curiosity becomes creation.

We gather to reflect, share gratitude and close the day together.
What did I discover?
What challenged me?
What inspired me?
What do I want to carry forward?

THE WHOLE FAMILY BELONGS
At LUCEN, we believe children flourish when the entire family feels connected. Worldschool Nosara gives children the freedom to discover, explore and grow independently—while creating meaningful opportunities for parents to become part of the experience.

WEEKLY PARENT CONNECTION
Tune In • Connect • Grow
Our weekly Parent Connect creates space for families to stay connected, aligned, and supported throughout the Worldschool experience. It’s a chance to share what we’re noticing, communicate openly, strengthen community, and ensure we’re working together to support each child’s growth, needs, and evolving journey.
FRIDAY FAMILY ADVENTURES IN LEARNING
Parents are invited to join our Friday adventures as we take learning beyond the classroom and into the living world around us. Together, families may explore the ocean, jungle and local community through nature expeditions, cultural experiences and meaningful service.
These shared days allow parents to witness their children’s learning, create memories together and become part of the wider LUCEN community.

The children have their journey.
The parents have theirs.
And throughout the experience, we come together as families.
LIFE IS THE CURRICULUM
LUCEN Worldschool Nosara
We are training children not simply to know more, but to notice more—to meet themselves, one another and the world with greater presence, steadiness and care.
LUCEN Nosara is designed to create space for something traditional schooling rarely has room for:
wonder. movement. presence. connection.
A child can study the tide and then paddle into it.
Learn about ecosystems and then swim above one.
Explore resilience and then experience it firsthand in the ocean.
Create art from what moved them.
Sit in circle and begin learning how to name what is happening inside.
Here, education is not separated from life.
THE OCEAN RESIDENCY
The intention is not simply to give children an extraordinary two months. It is to help families recognize the rhythms, practices and conditions that create greater steadiness, connection and aliveness—and carry them into life at home.
JANUARY + FEBRUARY 2027
A small cohort.
